I was reflecting recently on what brings me my most joy of being a mother with the ages my children are now, and it brought me to verse 3 John 1:4 “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”
I love when my kids want to talk or ask me random questions or call me unexpectedly to share their lives with me. I also love to hear their perspectives during our talks about how they view worldly situations or people around them. Most of the time, they point out the truth of what someone is or isn’t doing with their life and it makes my heart happy that they can recognize the truth of Godly living.
I’ve always strived to have an open dialogue with them when it comes to the world and the Bible. I would rather answer their questions correctly than for them to be led astray by the internet or other influences around them.
The Bible also says in John 8:32 “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Knowing the truth of the word and what God says about us is everything. Instilling this in my children has always been the bedrock of our relationship. They may not always have me as their mother, but if they have the truth of the word and believe what God says about them…this info will deliver the confidence and trust they need in the most important relationship they will ever have with their Lord and Savior Christ.
Being a mother to my children is a wonderful blessing but true joy for me comes from seeing their relationship grow and flourish in Christ.
