Parenting with Prayer

Parenting in 2017 is not for the faint of heart.  In fact, I would argue with my parents that parenting today is much harder than when they were raising me in in 80’s and 90’s.  And I’m sure parenting my generation was harder than my parent’s generation.   It’s a viscous cycle.

Today, not only do I have to raise and teach my kids acceptable moral and ethical behaviors but also I have a constant battle with information attacking them from every angle with the Internet and their cell phones with social media.  And I cannot forget the enemy at every turn trying to lure them into sin and socially accepted behaviors through peer pressures and circumstances.

With parenting my own kids, my husband and I have built a strong Christian foundation from day one in their lives.  We are committed and constantly remind them inside our home about their manners, respect of others, and doing the right thing even when no one is looking.  But we realize we can’t be with our kids 24/7 so our other weapon to protect them is prayer.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”  Proverbs 22:6 KJV

So what else do we do to protect our kids when they are away?   We pray and we pray often.  There isn’t a morning or evening that goes by now that I don’t cover my kids in prayer for wisdom, security, love, protection, and grace.  I’ve learned the enemy may pick fights with my kids daily to get them to succumb to sin and misery but he can’t fight my prayers for protection with God and His mighty Angels.   I know the favor of God and prayer and He listens when I apply the Blood of Christ on their lives.

My older son got a concussion playing football a couple of summers ago.  I had gotten “BUSY” at that time in life and was not praying over him for protection and when I got the call about his accident it hit me immediately in my spirit that I had become lax in this part of my prayer life.  From that moment on, I prayed for his protection for every practice and game to be free from concussions, broken bones, and injuries and I’m pleased to report my prayers were answered over him.

Keeping us busy and distracted is exactly what the enemy wants.  If the devil can keep us busy, we don’t pray and talk to God regularly.  God is our ultimate protection in life.  We can’t afford to not pray and talk with Him daily about our needs or the needs of our kids and family.

Someone told me a while ago that being “Busy” is an acronym for the devil.  It means, being under Satins yield.  Don’t be too busy to pray.  You can’t afford to and the devil will get you every time.  Pray for your kids, your spouse, and your family.  I promise God has your back and He won’t let the enemy win.
