Benefits of Vitamin C

I recently started going to a new doctor who prescribed Vitamin C to me. I've never had a doctor ask me if I was taking this vitamin or specifically suggested I take it. So I did some homework to look up the benefits of taking it and I wanted to share my findings with you.

Being a nurse, I knew Vitamin C was good to boost the bodies natural immunity and help fight off the common cold but I also learned that Vitamin C has other key benefits I was unaware of. Did you know that Vitamin C was beneficial in these areas:

  • Can lower your risk of developing cancers

  • Protects against eye disease

  • Protects your memory and risk for developing dementia

  • Boosts immunity

  • Helps to prevent iron deficiency

  • Can reduce uric acid levels to help prevent gout attacks.

  • Lowers your risk for heart disease by (lowering LDL (bad cholesterol) and increasing HDL (healthy cholesterol) also lowers triglyceride levels

  • Lowers high blood pressure

  • May reduce the risk for chronic disease by decreasing inflammation

  • Boosts collagen production (we all need this getting older!)

Not sure if you know this either but heart disease is the leading killer in women above breast cancer and cancers in general. Many theories are linked to a decrease in hormone production with estrogen levels as a woman ages. Other risk factors are obesity, diabetes, heredity factors, and a sedentary lifestyle.

Needless to say, after doing my research with Vitamin C it is now one of my daily vitamins. I am taking the Ultra Potent - C 1000 by Metagenics.
